Money

Slovenia is a member of the European Union and thus adopted the euro (€) as the official currency in 2007. In Slovenia, it is possible to pay with international credit and payment cards, and withdraw cash from cash dispensers around the country.

If you are a citizen of the European Union, there are no restrictions on bringing money into Slovenia. If you are not an EU citizen, you must declare amounts of €10,000 or over.

In Slovenia, money can be changed in all banks, exchange offices, hotel reception desks, travel agencies, petrol stations and large shopping centres.

You can withdraw cash 24 hours a day from most cash dispensers around the country using MasterCard, Visa, Maestro, Cirrus and Visa Electron Plus. You will find a cash dispenser in practically every corner in Slovenia.

Visa

In addition to a valid passport, citizens of countries with a mandatory visa requirement must have a visa as well in order to enter the Republic of Slovenia or the Schengen Area. A visa is a permit issued by a competent diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia.
